TMJ / TMD
We offer unique, lasting solutions for TMJ and TMD problems.
What is TMJ? Temporo-Mandibular Joint and Temporo-Mandibular Dysfunction refer to the symptoms that occur with the abnormal function of the jaw joint. This condition is responsible for most recurring headaches according to recent research.
How do you know if you have TMJ / TMD? Symptoms include: headaches (especially morning or nighttime), neck and shoulder pain, eye pain, earaches, tinnitis (ringing of the ears), pain with chewing, popping, restricted jaw opening, jaw moving to the side when opening, dizzyness, blurred vision and more.
How do we help? We identify the particular ‘interference’ causing abnormal function. Most often it is structural misalignment of the upper neck, cranium, and jaw joint. The connective tissue (fascia) is often tight and ‘stuck’ altering the movement of the jaw and further contracting the facial and neck muscles. We use percussion and laser therapy to stimulate the fascia and joint, painlessly returning the jaw to normal alignment, function and providing often immediate pain relief.
We have also seen TMJ occuring from a multitude of other causes including: allergies/sensitivities, infection, toxicity, nutrient deficiency, stress, chewing patterns and dental issues. Occasionally an inexpensive nightguard is necessary. Rarely, we refer to a dentist for malocclusion (bite misalignment) or high end nightguards.
We have helped many of the worst of the worst cases and we have a success rate above 90%. Best of all, treatment is typically short term, painless and at a fraction of the cost compared to dentists. We have never had a single patient require surgery, even of those recommended it before coming here.
So what do you do now? First, we recommend a complete evaluation to determine if you have TMJ / TMD and most importantly, what underlying ‘interference’ is causing it. Then a specific plan can be determined to correct your particular situation.
