Chiropractic doctors practice natural, drugless, non-invasive health care and rely on the body's ability to self-heal. Sounds ideal, but just how does it work?

All chiropractors treat ‘Vertebral Subluxation Complex’. Vertebrae are the bones of the spine. Subluxation: sub (less than) and luxation (dislocation of a joint) means a bone is out of place, which is what people commonly think. Complex means it is actually a combination of things and not that simple…it’s more complex. When spinal joints lose normal motion or position, the nerves that exit between the joints dysfunction. Some or most of the millions of individual nerves at that location may be affected, in the same way that flooding an underground utility affects phone lines. The muscles will reflexively tighten or spasm, the blood supply may reduce, the joint may swell. Left uncorrected (not adjusting to correct the spine), the joint will slowly and surely degenerate, similar to the way an untreated cavity continues to decay. With advancing degeneration, the nerves eventually atrophy, permanently damaging the tissues they supply. This degeneration in the low back is common among people with incontinence.
Chiropractors look very closely at the function of the spinal nerves to make sure everything they control works to its potential. The central nervous system, (the brain, spinal cord and spinal nerves) constantly monitors and controls almost all function of the body. If there is a Vertebral Subluxation Complex interferring with the spinal nerves, dysfunction, symptoms and eventually ‘dis-ease’ ensue. These dysfunctions weaken the tissues of the body, increasing susceptibility to injury, illness and disease. Traditional chiropractors ‘adjust’ these vertebrae to alleviate this interference. Then pain, symptoms and ‘dis-ease’ improve and your body can heal.
How are we different? First, we recognize that ‘Vertebral Subluxation Complexes’ may occur from six different factors, not just a structural malfunction or strain or sprain. We know and utilize the traditional chiropractic methods PLUS we employ advanced techniques used by only 1-3% of chiropractors.
Also, we can treat the spine without the ‘popping’ adjustments that many people don’t like. Also we use low level red and violet lasers, specific muscle testing, specific rehab protocols, and state-of-the-art methods demanded by top athletes like Lance Armstrong, Evander Holyfield and most professional sports teams. We work with the tough cases left unaddressed elsewhere.
Why don’t more chiropractors do what we do? Our treatment methods take years of varying types of advanced training to master and then we require more face to face time with the patient. We help people with very challenging, complex conditions. Often these patients have been to numerous doctors and prominent medical centers. Their health conditions require us to utilize advanced techniques and insight to resolve.
Unlike most chiropractors, we also analyze all major individual muscles controlled by individual spinal nerves, the fascia (connective tissue), your feet, knees, hips and upper extremities. We don’t just adjust the spine in hopes to get you healthy. We analyze six interferences that affect your health, because your condition may not just come from the structural interference to the nervous system. It may be nutritionally based, due to toxicity or emotions or autoimmunity, even though it may not ‘feel’ that way.
Don’t medical doctors do what you do? Actually, due to the overwhelming success of doctors like us, some MD’s are learning to practice ‘functional medicine’. That’s a term to describe the overall theme of what we and like minded colleagues do. We look at the way your body is dysfunctioning, before it becomes a disease and we intervene earlier with natural means. Unfortunately, nearly all MD’s ignore the important aspect of how structure affects the body. And sadly, most MD’s still follow the age old model of…one disease, one cause, one cure. Their philosophy dictates treating only when disease develops with a single man made molecule (drug) and/or just to control symptoms.
We treat the origin of your problem. Traditionally, chiropractors believe that spinal subluxations are the root cause of ‘dis-ease’. It's a leak in the roof. Or a kink in the wiring of your nervous system. The chiropractor will adjust your spine and wait for the body to heal itself. We believe that vertebral subluxation complexes cause dis-ease, but that there are six factors that cause the subluxation complex. We correct the cause of the subluxation. We don’t just adjust the spine. We look for other structural factors, like overpronation of the feet (similar to fallen arches). We examine for fascia restrictions (connective tissue that restricts movement, similar to wearing tight jeans). We check for nutritional deficiencies or toxic exposures that can cause dis-ease and are also monitored by the nervous system, again causing vertebral subluxation. Emotions and even electromagnetic forces can affect you, and if they are to blame, only by properly treating the source will true health return. On numerous occasions, we have helped conditions like sciatica or hip pain by treating yeast overgrowth in the bowel, or eliminating corn or other offending foods from the diet. We have seen severe migraine headaches helped by desensitizing potatoes, or detoxifying mercury, or adjusting the atlas vertebrae or increasing the distance between the patient and their hair dryer. The point is that by identifying how structure, nutrition, toxins, emotions, EMF and allergens affect a person, we can treat the true cause of ill health for most individuals and restore wellness.
